Job Title: Senior Communications and Social Media Officer

Location: London office (with some international travel)

Salary: This is a full-time position, salary £38 - £42k

EARA is a highly respected communications and advocacy organisation with offices in London and Brussels. We are looking to add to our growing team with a Senior Communications and Social Media Officer post. We need a dynamic science communicator who can demonstrate strong skills in science writing, social media and internal communications.

Job description

Social Media:

  • Daily postings and monitoring traffic through the EARA English language Twitter

  • Co-ordination of 18 EARA Social Media Ambassador Twitter accounts

  • Regular weekly postings on EARA LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook.

  • Managing EARA’s video initiatives on Instagram and YouTube.

  • Production of weekly social media metrics and analysis.

External Communications:

  • Write weekly stories for the EARA News Digest and longer read articles for the website.

  • Update the EARA website as needed.

Member Communications:

  • Responding to requests from EARA members for communications advice.

  • Helping to maintain EARA member communication channels, including the Quarterly Newsletter and database.

Person specifications

Required experience:

  • Demonstrable social media experience - digital content planning, scheduling, and posting across social media platforms, and familiarity with Mailchimp and design for infographics (Canva etc) and video-editing software.

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

  • A degree in a science-related field or science communication.

  • Ability to understand and critique scientific publications and technical documents related to animal research to translate to a wider non-scientific audience.

  • An understanding of the scientific, ethical, and moral justification for animal research.

Additional desirable skills and requirements:

  • Written and/or verbal competency in another European language.

  • Experience of website building platforms such as Wix and use of YouTube

  • Experience of stakeholder engagement and project management, including report writing.

  • Able to work occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Willing to undertake travel within Europe for face-to-face events and conferences.

  • Experience of database systems for customer relationship management.
