The second EARA Webinar focused on the essential yet often overlooked role of veterinarians in animal research. 

With almost 800 attendees, the webinar brought together an international panel of experts to explore veterinary responsibilities across research settings, including animal welfare oversight, application of the 3Rs, regulatory compliance, education and communication. Speakers shared perspectives from rodent, dog and non-human primate research and breeding facilities. The webinar concluded with a panel discussion addressing audience questions and reflecting on how greater visibility of veterinary expertise can contribute to public understanding and trust in animal research.

The first EARA Webinar focused on our Patient Discovery Project, an initiative connecting people living with chronic conditions with researchers who use animals in biomedical science. 

With over 200 attendees, the webinar presented outcomes from two Discovery Days held in Portugal and the Netherlands, centred on diabetes and Parkinson’s disease, respectively. Panel discussions brought together patients, researchers and patient associations, highlighting how direct engagement can address concerns, build trust and improve alignment between research priorities and patient needs. The programme also explored academic and industry perspectives, emphasising that patient views on animal research are nuanced and that meaningful engagement is increasingly recognised as an essential part of responsible biomedical research.
