Fighting coronavirus using computer modelling

The Human Brain Project, based in Geneva, Switzerland, and its partner Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany, are now using their knowledge of computer modelling for neurodegenerative diseases, to combat coronavirus.

Integrated in the EXSCALATE4CoronaVirus, a public-private consortium supported by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020, the scientists are collaborating with 17 other research groups, including teams from the EARA members KU Leuven, Belgium, and the University of Milan, Italy.

The aim is to identify, by virtual screening, antiviral drugs against proteins responsible for the survival of the virus, among commercially available drugs.

The next step is to give access to the e-infrastructures, from the Human Brain Project, to the worldwide scientific community working on coronavirus.
