Food cravings & pregnancy

Spanish scientists have taken a step forward in understanding food cravings during pregnancy.

The team at EARA member IDIBAPS, Barcelona, Spain, identified the brain mechanism related with motivation and desire in female mice.

The findings, published in the journal Nature Metabolism, could contribute to improve clinical nutrition guidelines for pregnant woman.

“Many urban legends and popular beliefs exist regarding cravings, although the neuronal mechanisms responsible for their appearance are not very well known,” said Marc Claret, leading author of the study.
