Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, USA, has found a new way to prevent clogged arteries.
Atherosclerosis – a condition where arteries become clogged with fatty substances called plaque – is a major cause of heart attacks and strokes.
In collaboration with colleagues from Maastricht University Medical Centre, Netherlands, and the University of Edinburgh, UK, they successfully minimised artery-narrowing plaque in mice.
Study published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
