In 2021 EARA launched its new video series #LetsTalkSciComm, inviting leading science communicators to share their tips and experiences of speaking with the public about science and animal research. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights.
The episodes, published on YouTube, have included interviews with podcast hosts, and YouTube creators, international science festival directors, and animal advocacy groups, who all offered insights into how and why they got started in science communication, and their choice of social media platform.
Neuroscientist and TikTok star Dr Ben Rein, kicked off the video series by stressing the need for more communication on the topic of animal research, saying 'it’s such an important topic for science communicators to be conveying to the layperson'.
Advocacy group Pro-Test Deutschland member, Natascha Drude, encouraged taking the first steps before starting on social media by having conversations with friends and family about animal research, telling viewers 'don’t overthink it – just start talking about it'.
