The future of experimental models in biomedical research

A webinar will be held this week to discuss a UK public research body report into the current use of different models in biomedical research, including animals.

The report by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), in consultation with the Physiological Society, was based on a survey into how researchers currently use their experimental systems and models and how they expect to use them in future.

The BBSRC has set up a webinar on Wednesday 27 Wed April, 11:00 – 12:30 BST with the author of the report Danielle Sagar. It will be chaired by BBSRC President, Prof. David Paterson. This is a free event, with registration here.

Among the report’s recommendations, was a proposal for multisectoral engagement, in conjunction with the UK NC3Rs body, that encompasses the entire range of models, including both animal and non-animal technology.

BBSRC also proposes working with other funders, to discuss further support of large animal facilities in the UK.
