The origin of language and memory

Researchers from the Newcastle University, UK, have found a link between the development of communication and memory in human and primate brains.

In collaboration with the University of Iowa, USA, they compared data from macaque monkeys and human neurosurgery patients after brain stimulation.

The results, published in the journal Neuron, discovered an unseen pathway in the brain that is deeply shared by humans and monkeys.

“This discovery has tremendous potential for understanding how brain stimulation could help patients, which requires studies with animal models not possible to conduct with humans,” said Matthew Howard, co-author of the study.
