German lab’s licence revoked

The operating licence of a facility run by the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology (LPT), Germany, has been revoked by the authorities (in German).

The District of Harburg revoked the licence of the LPT Mienenbüttel facility, in accordance with Section 11 of its Animal Welfare Act, This section governs authorisation to keep vertebrates and parts for research purposes.

In October last year, secret filming within an LTP facility revealed unacceptable standards of animal welfare.

LPT must now surrender all remaining live animals to suitable third parties, such as animal welfare groups and private individuals.

Some cats and dogs have already been transferred from LPT.

LPT has already announced that the Mienenbüttel facility will close in February.
