Bat organoid research for Covid-19

A simplified version of a bat gut has been created by scientists at the University of Hong Kong, China, to study coronavirus.

The team developed intestinal organoids - miniaturised versions of the organ - based on the tissues of bats, that are the likely source of the virus, plus similar human organoids.

The findings in Nature Medicine, show the virus that causes Covid-19 might infect the intestinal tract, in addition to the respiratory system.
