Coronavirus: Activist groups keep silent on animal research

Updated: Mar 31, 2020

EARA research has revealed a notable absence of calls to ban animal research from activist groups during the coronavirus crisis.

In an article in Spiked magazine, EARA executive director, Kirk Leech, noted that campaign groups such as PETA and Cruelty Free International, have fallen silent online with their claims about the ineffectiveness of the use of animals in research.

Kirk said: “Animal protection groups are currently isolating themselves from the public, because they know that their arguments to end animal research would be ridiculed by the public if made amid the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Kirk added: “Now is the time to make the moral and scientific case for the use of animals in research. In doing so, we need to expose the opportunists and cowards who want us to cross our fingers and hope it all goes away soon.”
